Amanda Hicks is an Instructor in the Division of Biomedical Informatics, University of Arkansas Medical School, where she works on ontology development and manages the Ontology of Medically Relevant Social Entities (OMRSE). She has a Ph. D. in Philosophy from the University At Buffalo - SUNY (3OJ2)
She was the principle ontologist for the KYOTO project www.kyoto-project.eu, where she developed the KYOTO ontology, which has three layers: a top layer based on DOLCE, a middle layer based on WordNet, and a domain layer for ecology and developed in conjunction with the WWF and ECNC. She is continuing development of this ontology for the SIERA Project, where the KYOTO Ontology is currently being mapped to the Arabic Ontology. (3OJ3)
She specializes in ontology development, and her philosophical research is about Leibniz, the history and philosophy of logic and science. (3OJ4)
